PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia has produced the first evidence-based Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPG) on cervical cancer with the launching of the second edition of CPG on the Management of Cervical Cancer.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the second edition CPG aimed to guide healthcare providers on evidence-based management of invasive cervical cancer in the Malaysian healthcare setting.

PUTRAJAYA: Dengue cases continue to decline nationwide in week 30 (July 24 to 30) with only 1,896 cases recorded compared to 2,188 cases in the previous week.

However, Health Director-General Datuk Dr Noor Hisham said six states showed an increase in the number of cases compared to previous week.

They are Kelantan (44 cases), Sarawak (14) Pahang (11), Malacca (11), Terengganu (2) and Perlis (one).

PETALING JAYA: Children not immunised against measles has led to a 340% leap in the number of in­fections within the first week of this month.

There were 873 cases reported in that week compared to the 197 recorded in the corresponding pe­­riod last year, an increase of 676.

Health Department director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah attributed the increase to the fact that children were not immunised against the disease.

KUALA LUMPUR — HIV infection from unsafe sex is now the No. 1 enemy in the Health Ministry’s fight to slash the number of new cases.

Among the measures the ministry has drawn up are providing antiretroviral medication to HIV negative partners as it would help suppress the spread of infection and boost its drive to get more Malaysians to come forward for regular HIV testing.

The ministry is also pushing for sex education to be introduced in schools.
