SEREMBAN: Government hospitals and facilities have been told to stop acquiring medical equipment which contains mercury.
According to Health Ministry director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, this is to protect humans and the environment from the adverse effects of mercury.

PETALING JAYA: The Health Ministry has advised parents to vaccinate their children against diphtheria.
Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said diphtheria has a high death rate and that it is crucial to immunise children against it.
According to the World Health Organisation, diphtheria is an infectious disease caused by the bacterium Corynebacterium diphtheria, which primarily infects the throat and upper airways, and produces a toxin affecting other organs.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah has advised against any outdoor events and activities when the Air Pollutants Index (API) reading exceeds 100.
He said t any such events should be postponed or cancelled until the air quality reached healthier levels.
“If the event must go on, it is advised that the occasion or activity be hosted indoors,” he said in a statement today.
